Some Reflections On “Caitlyn” Jenner

By now, hundreds of millions of people throughout the world are quite familiar with the “Caitlyn” (formerly “Bruce”) Jenner transformation story. There was so much interest in the story that it quickly achieved the coveted #1 search status on Google’s search engine. This is actually a sad testament to the current state of American culture. What Jenner has done is not “good and courageous,” as jubilantly declared by many media pundits, but is dishonorable and detestable. I hate that the youths of our time are being so thoroughly exposed to this type of behavior. Jenner’s Vanity Fair magazine shot is now plastered and glorified everywhere, from magazine stands to TV and the internet. Furthermore, it has estimated that he will make tens of millions of dollars off of his so-called “transformation.” The fame and money make his actions all the more appealing to millions of misguided people in our society.

Moses wrote long ago, “A woman shall not wear man’s clothing, nor should a man put on a woman’s clothing; for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God” (Deuteronomy 22:5). This passage addresses the matter of sexual identity. It was detestable to God for men and women to seek to appear as members of the opposite sex (as with modern “drag”).

Recent advancements in medical technology have taken these transformations to a whole new level, far beyond mere “drag” attire, to actual “gender reassignment” surgeries. Bruce Jenner underwent “facial feminization” surgery and is on hormone therapy. Some reports say that he also had breast implant and Adam’s apple surgeries, and plans to undergo sex-change surgery. Such radical procedures have far surpassed the particular warnings of Deuteronomy 22:5. However, the principle warning remains true — God made them MALE and FEMALE (Matthew 19:4; Genesis 2:24). Men have male chromosomes and women have female chromosomes. Men have male sex organs and women have female sex organs. Homosexuality is still sinful and wrong (Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9), and “gender reassignment” procedures do not make it right.

When hormone therapies are needed, they should be administered consistent with one’s actual gender — NOT contrary to it.
